Sigma Kappa strives daily to make a positive impact on and off campus throughout the San Angelo community. We feel as if whom our lives may touch in slight measure, and may we graciously give of what is ours. For most of us students, the Greek social life helps to make attending Angelo State University a more fulfilling experience. Sigma Kappa’s community service is an important aspect of our sorority life. It is safe to say that no other segment of the student population has dedicated more time and resources, or has raised more money for charity than the members of our Greek community. From volunteering in regional nursing homes and food banks, to giving blood, to raising money for charities such as Children’s Advocacy Center. Sigma Kappa is always lending a helping hand. We have gained a significance of happiness while helping the less fortunate to help with something constructive. We have also gained a solid foundation in leadership training that prepares us for the demands and responsibilities needed for the future.

Serving others is not just a form of do-goodism or feel-goodism, it is a road to social responsibility and citizenship. Being involved in previous Philanthropy events over the years has demonstrated true dedication and tremendous generosity towards fostering Sigma Kappa’s experience that enriches Angelo State students’ lives. We believe that the value of community service and volunteerism knows that we are making a difference in the community and to the people.

 Alzheimer's Disease Research:

Alzheimer's Disease Research and education is our main philanthropy. Research grants are made each year to universities and other institutions actively engaged in the fight against Alzheimer's Disease. The disease is characterized by progressive memory loss and other intellectual functions.  Nationally, Sigma Kappa donates over $500,000 in support of research.

Ultra Violet Rock-A-Thon
We host an annual Rock-A-Thon, called "Sigma Kappa Is Rocking To Create A Better World" on campus at Angelo State. This past year we raised over $1,000 in 48 hours by rocking in decorative rocking chairs non-stop with the help of friends, family, San Angelo community, teachers and classmates of Sigma Kappa members. Sigma Kappa Rock-A-Thon was national awarded by the Sigma Kappa national President!

Gerentology:
Another national Philanthropy is Gerontology. This is new field of social service that has come about because of the increase in life expectancy. Gerontology is the study of the aging and the needs of the elderly population. Locally, Sigma Kappa’s at Angelo State University spends a lot of time volunteering at the local nursing homes and hosts an annual Senior Prom for the residents along with the help of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity.

Maine Sea Coast Mission:
We also support the Maine Sea Coast Mission as a national Philanthropy. This is in honor of our five founders from Maine. Each November Sigma Kappa donates funds for medical aid, food, clothing, toys, etc. to families residing on small islands off the coast of Maine.
