Though sorority membership begins in college Sigma Kappa creates a bond between sisters which lasts a lifetime. Every year, recruitment not only brings an addition of wonderful ladies to the sorority, but also further unites its sisters who will forever have a lifelong bond to Sigma Kappa.
Sorority recruitment at Angelo State University takes place before the fall semester begins. Recruitment is a time when potential members have the opportunity to meet the sororities on campus and learn about Greek life. Through planned events, women going through recruitment learn about each chapter’s ideals, including community service, leadership and academics. This is the time to ask questions and discover what Greek life can offer you.
Through out the week, the women going through recruitment are guided by Rho Gammas (or recruitment counselors). These are women who have temporarily disaffiliated from their sororities to help give the potential new members an unbiased and helpful hand through the process. Their sorority identity is kept a secret, but is revealed on Bid Day.
This year recruitment begins on Monday, August 20 where the potential new members are allowed to move into the residence halls early, followed by an orientation dinner. Shortly after the first recruitment event, where the focus is sisterhood, you will get your first look into the bonds of between the sororities.
Tuesday night is philanthropy night, where each potential new member will be able to participate in a philanthropic event with the ladies of Sigma Kappa. We are excited to show you the philanthropies we love and support, as well as to get to know you better!
The last night of recruitment is preference, where potential new members are able to see the more serious side of sorority life. Preference night is where the potential new member must make her decision on what sorority she would like to join.
Thursday, August 23 is Bid Day! This is the end of the recruitment process and when the potential new members become part of the sisterhood. It is a full day of celebrating and making memories with your new sisters!
